Background
I booked our one-night stay at Katikies Garden in Santorini through American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts, charged to one of my US Amex Platinum cards.
The reason for booking through FHR was straightforward. The prepaid reservation triggered one of the card’s semiannual $300 FHR credits, while the stay included breakfast for two, a property credit and the possibility of an upgrade.
Katikies Garden is also a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, which created another overlap. US Amex Platinum cardholders can enroll for complimentary Sterling status in LHW’s Leaders Club program, adding a 5% points bonus on qualifying stays and five pre-arrival upgrade requests each year. Some of those benefits overlap with FHR, but the more interesting question for this stay was points.
Booking Katikies Garden through American Express rather than directly through LHW raised an obvious question: Could an FHR reservation also earn Leaders Club points?
In our case, the points did not post automatically. After the stay, I submitted a points adjustment request to Leading Hotels of the World. The response was definitive. LHW told me:
“reservations made through American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts (FHR) are eligible for points”
There was an important qualification. LHW said that FHR reservations sometimes do not appear in the Leaders Club portal and the points therefore may not be credited automatically. If that happens, members should send LHW a copy of the full Amex FHR confirmation letter for review. That is what happened with our Katikies Garden stay.
What We Received
LHW manually credited my account with 457 Leaders Club points plus 23 Sterling bonus points for our July 18–19 stay. The 23-point Sterling bonus also corresponds to the 5% status bonus on the 457 base points. The numbers are small by hotel-program standards, but Leaders Club points are unusually valuable. Frequent Miler currently values them at 7.6 cents each in September 2026, putting the 480 points at roughly $36.
The distinction LHW made in its response is useful. Its normal eligible booking channels include LHW, certain participating hotel websites while logged into Leaders Club, and qualifying travel agents. That makes an FHR reservation booked and prepaid through American Express less obvious.
Amex FHR is different. LHW specifically confirmed that an FHR reservation can qualify for Leaders Club points even though it was booked through American Express.
So this was a genuine stack: we received the Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts benefits attached to the Katikies Garden reservation while the stay also earned Leaders Club points. The only complication was that the second half of the stack required some work after the stay.
The Practical Takeaway
If you book an LHW property through Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts, I wouldn’t assume the Leaders Club points will appear automatically. Keep the complete written FHR confirmation. If the stay doesn’t credit, LHW’s Loyalty Operations team says that document can be submitted for review.
Our Katikies Garden stay ultimately earned 457 Leaders Club points plus 23 Sterling bonus points, worth roughly $36 at Frequent Miler’s current valuation. More importantly, LHW confirmed in writing that the FHR booking itself was eligible. The stack worked, but it required a follow-up after the stay.
