Prague was a long January weekend built around an unusual hotel plan: four nights, three hotel programs and a deliberate move between properties as the economics changed.
The trip produced more than hotel reviews. There was the original allocation decision, three very different stays, a quieter post-Christmas Prague, and several stories that continued developing after we came home. These are the articles that came out of that weekend.
Planning the Weekend
Before we arrived, the unusual part of this trip was already set: three hotel programs would each handle a different part of the weekend. Expiring certificates, Fine Hotels & Resorts benefits and the timing of the stays determined where each one belonged.
Arriving in Prague
We arrived late enough that the first night had a simple job. The Holiday Inn didn’t need to be the best hotel of the weekend; it needed to make the arrival easy without wasting one of the more valuable stays.
Into the Center
The next move changed the trip. The W put us in the middle of Prague and became the hotel around which much of the weekend naturally revolved.
The Final Night
Sunday brought another hotel change, this time deliberately timed around lower pricing, Fine Hotels & Resorts benefits and the possibility of an upgrade before flying home.
Around Prague
A quieter Prague between the Christmas markets and the return of everyday routines. Streets, architecture, cafés and the moments that don’t fit naturally into a hotel review.
What the Trip Produced Next
One story emerged before we had even left. While checking out of the W Prague, I bought Marriott gift cards from Best Buy using a Splurge credit and immediately applied them against the hotel bill.
Prague resurfaced again after we returned. A Marriott Moments experience in the city caught my attention, and I followed two identical auctions as their prices diverged in real time.
When the auctions closed, the difference remained. Two identical experiences finished almost 30,000 Marriott Bonvoy points apart.
That was the Prague weekend: four nights, three hotel programs and a city in between them. A couple of the stories it produced continued developing after we came home.
